Here’s how each day will unfold:
Day 1: Pattern Prep & Collaging Basics
We’ll kick things off by exploring pattern selection, material prep, and fabric cutting. You’ll learn how to trace your pattern and start collaging pieces together using Shannon Brinkley’s raw-edge appliqué technique. It’s a hands-on day filled with practice and creativity, giving you the foundation to make a bold, modern quilt.
Day 2: Finishing Touches & Quilting Techniques
On the second day, we’ll bring your project closer to completion! You’ll refine your collaging, cut out templates, and start applying finishing touches like ironing and assembling the pieces. We’ll also discuss different finishing options and introduce you to basic free-motion quilting, helping you add the perfect final touches to your creation.

I am a school nurse by trade but have been a quilt lover since I was 18 years old when I received my first quilt while I was serving overseas in the Navy. It was handmade by my grandfather. This quilt traveled the world with me. It is one of my most treasured possessions to date (30+ years later.)
When I finished my master’s degree in nursing, I knew I needed a hobby. If my 70-year-old grandpa could learn to quilt, then I could too. I have since gone on to make eight complete Quilts of Valor for our military members and an additional 40 quilt tops for the Quilts of Valor Foundation. I am now on a mission to empower crafters like you to improve their quilting skills.
